Biografía
Eugenio Polgovsky nació en la Cd. de México en 1977. En 1994 ganó el concurso mundial de fotografía Viviendo juntos organizado por la UNESCO. Estudio dirección y cinefotografía en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica en México, graduado Cum Laude. Su trabajo como director incluye cortometrajes y documentales. Como cinefotógrafo ha trabajado en ficciones y documentales. “Trópico de cáncer”, su primer documental ganó diversos premios alrededor del mundo (Ariel por la Academia Mexicana de Cinematografía, el premio Joris Ivens en el Festival Cinéma du Réel, Mejor documental en Morelia, Líbano, Corea, FICCO, entre otros). “Trópico de cáncer” tuvo una proyección especial en Cannes, “Semaine de la critique” y fue parte de la selección Frontier en Sundance. En 2004 Polgovsky recibió en México el Premio Nacional de la Juventud. Su nuevo documental “Los herederos” fue producido con apoyo del Fondo Hubert Bals de Holanda y Visions Sud Est de Suiza, tuvo su premier mundial en la 65 Mostra de Cine de Venezia.
Biography
Eugenio Polgovsky was born in Mexico City in 1977. In 1994 he won the world photography contest “Living together”, organized by UNESCO. He studied directing and cinematography at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematografíca in Mexico City, graduated cum laude. His work as a director comprises short films and documentaries. He has also worked as cinematographer in documentaries and fiction films. “Tropic of Cancer”, his first documentary, won several prizes around the world (Ariel for Best First documentary by the Mexican Academy of Cinematography, Joris Ivens Prize at Cinema du Réel, Best Documentary in Lebanon, Korea, Morelia, FICCO, among others). “Tropic of Cancer” also had a special screening at Cannes “Semaine de la critique” and was part of Frontier selection at Sundance. In 2004 Polgovsky received Mexico National Youth Prize. His new documentary,”The Inheritors”, produced with support of the Hubert Bals Fund and Visions Sud Est had its world premier at the 65th Venice Film Festival.
Sinopsis
Los niños del campo mexicano comienzan a trabajar desde pequeños. Los herederos es un retrato de sus vidas y de su lucha diaria por sobrevivir. Las realidades de estos niños son reflejo de aquellas de sus ancestros. Una generación tras otra permanece atrapada en un ciclo perpetuo de pobreza.
Synopsis
From a very young age, children begin to work in the Mexican countryside. The Inheritors is a journey through their lives and their daily struggle for survival. These children’s realities echo those of their ancestors. One generation after another remains caught up in a perpetual cycle of inherited poverty.
