Biografía
Nace en Santiago de Chile en 1974. Estudia Biología en la Universidad Católica, profesión que abandona en 1994 para irse a Cuba a estudiar Cine. En la isla filma en 16 mm., cortometrajes y documentales cortos, que muestra en diversos festivales. En 1999 parte a Chicago con una beca Fulbright donde estudia un Master of Fine Arts. En Estados Unidos graba en video pequeñas ficciones y obras experimentales, las que son exhibidas en galerías y festivales.En 2003 escribe su primer largo, Play, que se graba en Santiago en 2004. En Abril de 2005 estrena esta película en el Festival Tribeca en Nueva York ganando el premio a la mejor dirección.
Biography
Alicia Scherson was born in Santiago de Chile in 1974. After graduating as a biologist she studied filmmaking in the Escuela de Cine de Cuba, EICTV and then received a Master in Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has made several short films and videos shown internationally. Her first feature film PLAY”, recipient of the Hubert Bals Fund, was shot in Chile and premiered in 2005 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where it received the Best Director Award. Since then, PLAY” has received 14 other international awards and has been sold to theaters in Europe and Latin America, including Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, Germany, Belgium, France and UK. Alicia now lives in Chile where she works as a film teacher at Universidad de Chile, while she editis her new feature films: Turists”, and prepares the shooting of El Futuro” (based on a Roberto Bolaño Novel Una Novelita Lumpen”) another feature film which received the Ibermedia Film Fund in 2007.
Sinopsis
Después de pelear con su marido camino a las vacaciones, Carla decide pasar unos días en un Parque Nacional del Sur. Su compañero de viaje es Ulrik, un noruego veinteañero que encuentra en el camino. Como buenos turistas, Carla y Ulrik intentan mantener una distancia prudente, construyendo una postal perfecta de sus vidas, pero de a poco van descubriendo sus secretos y adentrándose peligrosamente en el paisaje.
Synopsis
A broken relationship, a down and out pop idol, a blonde Scandinavian tourist and a collection of insects form the ingredients of Alicia Scherson’s beautifully told second film about thirtysomething Carla who finds out in a Chilean nature reserve that the laws of nature can be just as confusing as those of the city.
